Clinton County - Economic Development

AgriQuest sees two year project come to a successful conclusion.

AgriQuest has worked to bring low linolenic soy beans to Clinton County and the production of low Lin oil for two years. It was in early February 2006 that the local Archer Daniels Midland facility and Monsanto announced that they were looking for 40,000 acres to grow low Lin beans for the production of the oil. Many regional producers answered this call for acreage.

Local farmer Dave Ristow said this was a very exciting day for Clinton County. Ristow is a member of local group, AgriQuest, which looks at ways to bring agricultural business to the area. “It started as a way to bring any kind of business to Clinton County,” he said, “but since there were several agriculture people on the panel it seemed natural (to look for agri-business).”

The AgriQuest group began looking at identity preserved opportunities three years ago. While there were several factors that brought the Vistive opportunity to Clinton County, the research done by the group helped the cause by proving the area could properly handle identity preserved grain. Gina Sheets, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce member, hopes this opportunity will bring others like it to the area.

AgriQuest will continue to explore new agribusiness opportunities for Clinton County Producers.
